NIO's compact electric hatchback, the Firefly EV, will begin deliveries in Norway and the Netherlands on August 14, marking the brand's official European debut. The model will subsequently roll out to several other European markets, including Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Luxembourg, Poland, and Romania.

Technical Specifications and Positioning

Positioned as an urban commuter, the Firefly EV features a 42.1 kWh battery pack and a 141 hp electric motor, delivering a CLTC-rated range of 420 km. The vehicle was initially launched in China in April 2025 with prices ranging from ¥119,800 to ¥125,800. In June 2025, NIO introduced its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) program, which reduced the starting price by 30% to ¥79,800.

Sales data indicates strong performance in China, with cumulative deliveries exceeding 10,000 units by the end of July. During Q2 2025 (April-June), NIO sold 7,843 Firefly EVs, including more than 2,000 units in July alone.

European Pricing and Expansion

European pricing differs significantly from the Chinese market. In Norway, the official price is set at 279,900 NOK (approximately ¥195,500), representing a 64.2% premium over Chinese pricing. It remains unclear whether the BaaS option will be available in Norway or the Netherlands.

Following the initial launch in Norway and the Netherlands, NIO plans to expand Firefly EV availability to additional European markets including Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Luxembourg, Poland, and Romania. Specific launch timelines and pricing for these markets have not yet been confirmed. Reports of a potential 2025 UK launch remain unverified by official sources.

Vehicle Features and Design

The Firefly EV measures 4,003×1,781×1,557 mm with a 2,615 mm wheelbase—145 mm longer than NIO's Mini Cooper. Interior highlights include a 13.2-inch floating touchscreen, 6-inch digital instrument cluster, 9 airbags, 14-speaker audio system, fragrance system, and 256-color ambient lighting. The vehicle's 105 kW (141 hp) electric motor propels it from 0-100 km/h in 8.2 seconds.

NIO announced its European delivery plans during an event in Munich on August 4, which also commemorated the 10th anniversary of the company's design center.
