August 18 — According to the latest research report from TrendForce, global battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales reached 3.28 million units in Q2 2025, marking a significant 39% year-over-year increase.

Xiaomi Auto made headlines by entering the global top 10 BEV brands for the first time, driven by strong performance of its SU7 model.

Market Leaders and Key Performances

BYD maintained its dominant position with an 18.3% market share and 43% year-over-year growth, further solidifying its status as the BEV market leader.

Tesla held onto second place despite experiencing a 14% year-over-year sales decline due to weaker performance in key markets including China, North America, and Western Europe, causing its market share to drop to 11.7%.

Geely secured the third position with a 6.4% share, followed by Wuling in fourth place, Volkswagen in fifth, and BMW in eighth.

Rising Chinese Manufacturers

Leapmotor and Xpeng both exceeded 100,000 quarterly sales for the first time, capturing 3.3% and 3.1% market share respectively (ranking sixth and seventh), with Leapmotor demonstrating particularly impressive growth.

Xiaomi Auto emerged as the surprise contender, ranking ninth with a 2.5% market share in its first appearance in the rankings.

While the SU7 currently accounts for the majority of Xiaomi's BEV sales with modest Q2 growth, analysts note the brand's significant potential as it increases production capacity and prepares to introduce new models.

Hyundai completed the top 10 with a 2.4% share, benefiting from favorable South Korean policy incentives that drove its 41% year-over-year growth.
